Easy Beef Burrito Skillet
This Easy Beef Burrito Skillet has beef, black beans, salsa, and tortillas all cooked in one skillet. The tortillas turn soft and almost like a dumpling. This tasty Mexican one-pan dish is done in less than 20 minutes and dishes are done in less than one!
EASY BEEF BURRITO SKILLET
Are you guys a fan of chicken and dumplings? Well, think of this as the Mexican version of that. This Easy Beef Burrito Skillet has all of your burrito fixings tossed together in one pan!
You know I love one-pan meals like this One-Pan Chicken Fajita Rice!
Start with taco seasoned meat and add your black beans, salsa, and some water. Make sure you use a salsa you love and if you’re making it for kids use a mild one.
Cut your 6-inch tortillas into 1-inch slices. Use a pizza cutter and you can even stack them up and do it in one step.
Stir the tortilla strips into the mixture. This is where the magic happens.
The tortillas soften and turn into wonderful dumpling like bites.
You’re almost done.
Sprinkle with cheese and let it melt.
Top with a good dollop of sour cream in the center and with green onions. Add some pico de gallo if you want.
When you serve it you can scoop a little sour cream from the center with each portion.

This meal is amazing. I added a cup of cooked rice.
Holy smokes this is good! I used pinto instead of black beans because I don’t do black beans anymore and I used ground Turkey because it’s cheaper than beef and this was such an easy, economical, delicious dish! The tortillas do taste like dumplings; they are just delightful! My picky 13 year old proclaimed it the best thing she’s ever eaten!
Definitely going in to rotation. Thanks!!
Very simple and fast recipe for a rushed night – basically soft shell tacos without the mess. I subbed corn for black beans and an undrained can of rotel for salsa based on what I hand on hand, and used ~2/3 cup water. I also used ground turkey vs beef due to dietary restrictions. It was on the bland side, but that’s my fault not the recipes’s since I used turkey. In my rush, I forgot to add the extra spices ground turkey always needs to be flavorful (I usually double all but salt). If you sub turkey – don’t make my mistake! I added Tajin and a little cayenne pepper after we dished up and that gave it some good zip.
Is there anything to sub for the Salsa or leave it out, my husband doesn’t like it
It adds flavor but you could leave it out.
I have recently started seasoning diced tomatoes or I will use a jar of pasta sauce when needing a substitute for salsa!
I love this recipe. One of my go tos when I need a fast, yummy meal.
This is a great recipe and sooo easy! I cut down on the water to 1/4 cup and added more salsa. Came out fantastic!! Highly recommend trying this one!!
Your recipes are excellent and we have a few to days. I am making the Easy Beef Burrito Skillettonight but adding onions and mushrooms. Don’t know yet if it will turn out as good as the others I have made, but I am confident it will taste great. I will let you know.
Really good dinner for any of those (like me) who have to accommodate picky husbands/kids. I topped it with Fritos corn chips to balance the texture. It also makes a great taco salad base if you want to leave out the tortilla strips!
Glad you liked it!
Looking for the answer Janet’s question to swapping out refried beans for black beans. Will make this recipe soon.
So refried beans will change the consistency of the dish but it can be done.
Great recipe, Tastes great!👍😁
Do you think I could swap out black beans for refried beans in this recipe. Not a fan of them. But LOVE LOVE everything else in this recipe.
I just made this tonight and wow! My son and I loved it! It was soooo easy to make, and I LOVE one-skillet meals. I didn’t have a packet of taco seasoning, so I just threw in about 2 T chili powder, 1 tsp onion salt, 1 tsp garlic powder and 1 tsp Tony Chachere’s (and I’m just guessing because I never measure anything). I think the sour cream and green onions were really the “icing on the top”. My son even commented how much he liked the green onions! 🙂 Thank you so much for your site and your delicious recipes! This is the first one I’ve tried and I have two more printed out for this week! Thank you again!! Stay well.
Awesome. So glad you liked it!
Awesome, another tasty one pan recipe.
I’m loving these.
Made tonight—really enjoyed recipe. I used ground turkey and added diced tomato to individual servings. I will definitely make it again!
My fam Loved it!
Over the “stay at home” mandate (finally lifted in OHIO) I have been making your “one pan” meals.
This was a winner and very easy.
also have made:
– Easy Taco Bake (very good I added black beans and have a bar of cream cheese)
-Pesto Pasta with Chicken ( good spring meal)
– Chicken Caesar Pasta casserole (Love good food with a few ingredients)
– Korean Beef (yum…am liking ginger)
– One Pan Chicken and Spinach Orzo ( have never cooked with Orzo this was very good)
Thanks for GOOD EASY recipes!!
You are welcome and thank you for always coming back!
Easy to make not messy eating. Tasty
Sooo tasty and sooo easy. Thank you thank you!!
Love this recipe! I’ve shared it with family as well and they love how delicious and easy the clean up is. Only thing I changed is I added a can of whole white corn along with the black beans. So good!!
Simple and crowd-pleasing. Thanks for this recipe! The family was making faces and being very skeptical, then all came back and said it was really good.
My kids were too and then they loved it!
These are great! So are these https://thehealthypatron.com/best-frozen-burritos/
Soooo very good! My husband loved it so much, he’s doing the dishes! Thank you!!!
Haha that’s a sign of a good one.
Just discovered this site and here’s what I love: the recipes (of course), the wonderful photography, the conversational tone of your explanations, AND, I can jump straight to the how-tos if I’m in a hurry! Yippppppppeeeee! Thanks!
Haha you are welcome!
I didn’t have any whole black beans she. Used black refried and they worked fine! Just creamier!
I might have to try that sometime.
Just going to be honest…i tried this and mine looked like dog scraps. I was a little worried because it wasn’t visually appealing. But it tastes heavenly! This is a favorite at my house. Even my 2 year old loves it!
Ha Shoot! Sorry it wasn’t prettier.
It does not say how many it serves and I need to know how much is in a serving because of the high sodiu content.
It says 6 servings at the top of the recipe.
I have found an amazing taco seasoning recipe online. I completely omit the salt. I have to watch my salt as well and was so happy when I found a delicious seasoning that I could control the salt content with. The tortillas are high in salt though.
Hi Missy ,I was just wondering were did you find this recipe?
I’m sure I’ve just missed it ….but what is one serving of this dish?
1/6 of the dish is a serving. It’s really hard to measure it other than that.
Very good and easy. Had a adjust a bit as to what I already had in my kitchen but still came out great!
Glad you liked it!
Just made this and it was delicious! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I’m still not seeing nutrition information. Am I missing it?
It’s below the recipe.
Hi! I wonder if you have nutrition information on this recipe? Thanks so. Much
I can add it Brenda.
You saved my dinner and my sanity! The oven is broken, but the stovetop works. You’re the best!
Hey you! Glad I could help.
Made this last night — YUM!!! Even my 13 month old who has gotten rather picky of late scarfed it up and had a second helping! I added half a can of corn (drained) as well. So super easy to make and clean up, thank you for the recipe!!
Corn is a great addition!
Oh my these just sound yummy. Love this type of food. Simon.
Can I use a can of Rotel diced tomatoes w/ green chilies instead of salsa?
I made this tonight and I absolutely love it!! Will make this again and again!! So glad you shared it and I found it!
I’m so glad too. We all need easy recipes!
Made this last night for tonight’s supper…..Amazing!!! We left out the beans….but will definitely make it again!!
THanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Made this tonight. We really liked it! I used salsa verde instead of chunky salsa. Otherwise followed the recipe. Thank you!
So glad you liked it.
Would it be possible to substitute refried beans for the black beans?
They have very different textures. I’m sure you could do it but it won’t taste the same.
Greetings from Mexico, Great little dish, though for me it took more like 15 min or so for the sauce to thicken, I suspect i may not have put enough meat in there but it was good non the less. If you having a hard time finding taco seasoning, you can put a tablespoon of Cumin, Salt and pepper to taste, some paprika and a little salted garlic powder and it will come out great.
Have you tried this with corn tortillas? I have some that don’t hold up very well so I’ve been using them for enchilada casseroles and such. Thanks!
I haven’t tried it with corn tortillas but I’m sure it would work.
very delicious cant wait to try it
Made this tonight and it was one of the easiest meals to make and clean up! Delicious, too! My whole family of six ate it without any complaints. Quite a miracle😉. Thanks!
We just made this for dinner tonight!
I made this last night for dinner and it was SO good! I followed the recipe exactly and everyone loved it! definitely saving this recipe!!
So glad you liked it!
What a great idea to put tortilla strips into burrito skillet. Looks so delicious. I should make it for dinner!
I know you said you fixed it, but I’m still not seeing when you add the beans…is it with the taco seasoning, etc?
You add the beans with the taco seasoning.
I prepared this recipe the same day you sent it out. My husband & I loved it, and we had left overs for lunch! It was delicious, easy to prepare, & I’ve forwarded the recipe to 6 coworkers that thought it smelled incredible during lunch!
Thank you for posting recipes that busy people can cook successfully 🙂
Thank you! You made my day!
Thank you for sharing such an easy recipe, perfect for any weeknight, even with lots of kids activities and such. And I love the whole one-skillet meal; less clean up is always better, too!
Easy does it with this skillet recipe! I love that it’s not too complicated and quick enough for weekdays. Thanks for sharing! Definitely trying this.
There are 4 things I love the most about this recipe: it’s an instant sensorial trip to Mexico, it’s quick to prepare and delicious, you don’t end up with piles of pans and dishes to wash after dinner and it makes the perfect meal for a relaxed Friday dinner after a whole week of hard work!
Perfect weeknight dinner for the whole family, love this!
