Pepperoni Cheese Stick Roll Ups

I know it feels a bit schizophrenic around here bouncing back and forth from healthy to naughty dishes.

But there’s just so much food and so little time.

Don’t I sound like Ben from the Bachelor if he were living in a mansion with girls made out of food?

Okay…maybe that was a stretch.

I don’t know how you couldn’t feel a “connection” with these Pepperoni String Cheese Rollups. They’re almost like these Pizza Rolls or these Stuffed Pizza Rolls, but definitely the easiest of all of them. I made these for my kids in under five minutes.

But they aren’t just for kids…I’m thinking Super Bowl grub for sure. The Garlic Butter Glaze on top is definitely not a necessity but if you are serving them for adults it adds some flavor and makes them look a little nicer.

And yes, I’m completely ignoring the fact that TGWAE now has over 20,000 facebook fans. That’s just crazy.  Because really people, I’m posting about rolling premade dough, pepperoni, and cheese sticks being rolled up and baked. How hard is that?

And now I have to do another giveaway…because you all are so nice.

Not today. But soon…

Look at that cheesy goodness!

Pepperoni Cheese Stick Roll Ups

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 4 cheese sticks, halved
  • 1 (3.5 ounce) package sliced pepperoni
  • optional - marinara or ranch sauce for dipping
  • Garlic Butter Glaze:
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasonings
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 Tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Take each triangle of crencent roll dough and place about 6 pepperoni on the bottom of the triangle. Place half of a cheese stick on top and roll up. Place seam side down on a cookie sheet and bake for 10-14 minutes or until golden brown.
  3. While rolls are cooking, combine the melted butter, Italian seasonings, garlic powder and Parmesan cheese in a small bowl.
  4. When rolls are done remove from the oven and brush with the garlic butter glaze. Serve with marinara or ranch for dipping.

  27. I’m totally loving these! And I already feel a connection to them! :)

  28. I’m not based in the US… are crescent rolls the same things “roughly” as croissants? Or are they more “bready”? These look great and I’m eager to try them… but just wondered if the croissant-type pastry would work or maybe be a bit too flaky… Any ideas/tips? Love love love this site… I just made your S’mores cookies last night… and about to make the apple muffins. You are not helping my waistline at all… but everything looks incredible! hehe! Thanks!

  30. We eat a lot of pizza in our house. My kids loved this version… quick, easy and delicious!

  31. Um. Major hit in my house of little boys!
In fact, straight from my son, “these are so delicious mom. Even better than spaghetti!”

  32. @jacena, I used regular crescent dough but you could use grands just stuff them with more pepperoni and maybe a whole cheese stick cut in half.

  33. @vicki, crescent rolls are definitely more bready than croissants. Im sure any bread dough would work.

  34. OK how come this chick does not weigh 400#. I’m jealous! LOL But I love your recipes!

  35. Christy, I found your recipe on Pintrest, and just took a batch out of the oven during half time of the Super Bowl. My daughter and I made them, and added a bit more garlic powder than your recipe called for. They were yummy! Thanks so much for sharing — can’t wait to share this success with my friends. :)
    Melissa (pintrest.com/literarybabe)

  36. I just made these tonight. I tucked in a few more pieces of pepperoni than you instructed, lol. Oh my, they were quite scrumptious. The garlic butter glaze takes them to a whole other level. I will definitely make these again!

  37. I saw this on pinterest and made them WW style- low fat crescent dough, turkey pepperoni, and low-fat string cheese. The were DELISH I can’t even imagine what the full-fat version would taste like! Great recipe!

  38. This WV girl grew up eating pepperoni rolls. I always used frozen dough balls when making them at home…in particular, Texas rolls. Never can find them in the UK, but have used a bread dough mix which worked out. Need our oven repaired so I can make lots of yummy things!

  39. Made theses twice, and loved them!

  40. Here in WV, we have the fabled “Pepperoni Roll,” which has been around for a loooong time. It is basically a palm-sized (or bigger) roll that is formed around a stick of pepperoni, or lots of slices all bunched together. It can have cheese or not. And it’s very, very greasy. Legend is, they were invented as a convenient “meal” for miners to take into the coal mines with them. FYI…did you know most states except for WV have laws against selling meat baked inside of bread? That is why you can’t find them anywhere but here! That said…your little rolls, while not really healthy, are probably better than what I grew up with, haha!

  41. I featured your recipe on my blog today! These were so good and really easy to make! Thanks for the great recipe! I would love for you to stop by and grab a feature button

  42. How many does this recipe make?

  43. @anonymous,
This recipe makes 8 pizza roll ups.

  44. Made them kids and thier dad approve, so Awesome!

  45. Made it and it was delish!!

  46. Found this just in time for football season. Can’t wait to whip up a batch!

  47. Made these last night for a potluck and they were a total hit! Thank you!

  48. I have a question. How do you get the cheese to melt??? I baked my crescent til they were golden brown and the inside wasn’t done :( The cheese and peps weren’t even hot or melted. If cooked any longer, the bread would burn. Had the oven at 350.

  49. @Dana,
That’s weird. Did you use generic cheese sticks? Maybe try setting the cheese out for a couple minutes to that’s it’s not super cold when you stick it in.

  50. Do you cut the pepperoni’s in halves or fourths? I see in the picture you cut yours up!I am about make 5 batches for the first time for dinner! :)

  51. i decided to cut the ronni’s in half! and i have to say, they are amazing! && 10x better than pizza! that garlic butter is AMMAZING! thank you for the recipe

  52. Just made these and YUM! So easy, quick and delicious. I made them spur of the moment since I happened to have all ingredients on hand. The Italian seasoning in the topping made it absolutely perfect, much more flavorful that Pizza Hut’s pizza rollers Thanks for sharing this! :)

  53. I want to make these for a friend who is pregnant and on bed-rest. She also has 3 other children. So for convenience, can I freeze these so she can just pop them in the oven for a quick snack? And would you recommend them be placed in freezer before or after they are cooked? Thanks!!

  54. Oh my goodness, my boys are going to LOVE this!! Thanks so much for sharing :)

  55. I just made these for a playoff game. Made a double batch and used shredded mozorella instead of stocks…they were AMAZING. I’m somone who hates to cook, but when man tells me they are a “little slice of heaven”, it makes it worth it. Thanks for the recipe!! Ps- I forgot the doping sauce and it didn’t matter, ps- they are scrumptious on their own.

  56. Thanks for this idea, it was just what I was looking for as a treat for my husband watching his favorite football team play today! I used a puff pastry sheet instead of crescent rolls (bc it’s what I already had in my fridge) and I used fresh mozzarella cheese chopped up. Overall they turned out great, but some did not puff up for some reason. The taste is still great, though! Also made some dipping sauce with store-bought marinara to which I added garlic powder, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, and Parmesan cheese. Definitely would make these again!

  57. Making these for my husband and I tonight as a quick “meal”. Looking forward to trying them out!!!

  58. Lavada McReynolds says:

I want these Pepporoni Cheese Stick Rollups right now!! :)

  59. I love pizza homemade how can I add bacon or Italian sausage or chicken or something on it

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} says:

Add whatever you like inside! I would cook the chicken, sausage, or bacon before stuffing it though.

  60. I just made these as our super bowl snack and they were (you notice I said “were”) great. I made my own Italian seasonings combo and I used turkey pepperoni since of traditional but I had to write and thank you for this idea out there.

  61. Has anyone tried to make these with a little sauce. I am making these for the kiddos at my baby shower and figured I would add a little sauce in with the roll to bake in, just wondered if anyone did that and how it worked ???

  62. What is the trick to getting the cresant roll to cook on the inside? After 20 minutes, the outside was crispy and the inside still was not done. I have made regular cresant rolls many times before and never had this problem. This recipe looks so delicious and simple, I would love to try it again

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} says:

Strange? Maybe you could kind of roll out the triangle so that it was thinner and cooked. Really strange…

  63. carlene peterson says:

Super ideas I really enjoyed trying them all.
    Thank you,
    Carlene

  64. I shared your recipe on my blog, So amazing! Great idea! Thank so much for sharing!

  65. I found some Pillsbury Garlic Butter Crescent rolls so I just rolled the pepperoni and cheese up in them and sprinkled them with Italian Seasoning. Very Good and so easy.

  66. What is that red mat they are on? is that what you baked them on or cooled them on?

  67. These were great!!

  68. Wow. This cheese looks so yummy! I would try to make it some time. Thanks for the recipe, Christy!

  69. I just made these for a simple lunch, especially since I had a roll of croissants sitting in my fridge that needed to be use. For such a simple lunch, so delicious! I used a reduced fat cheese stick so not as many calories but I love the buttery, flakiness of the croissants and I love pepperoni pizza so this gives me that taste! Thanks for the recipe!

  70. This is so much easier than the last pizza roll up i made last night. Dont put sauce in the crescent orit wont cook and it just ends up uncookes dough. Def trying this way. Already repinned.

  71. Jennifer Miller says:

Hey. So I made these today and for some reason my cheese sticks didn’t melt.. they softened some, but didn’t melt. Did I do something wrong?

    • Christy {The Girl Who Ate Everything} says:

Depending on the brand of cheese, I noticed some melt faster than others. You can definitely bake them longer…to make sure they melt.

  72. Isagani Baria says:

    This was so good!

  73. Wow! These look so good. I can’t wait to try them. I know my kids will love them.

  74. These were so yummy and quick to make. Great as an appetizer or quick snack. I love that I had all the ingredients already and only had to buy pepperoni. I have just started meal planning and I saw your recipe on Pinterest. I am trying to get a good collection of easy meals to rotate on a regular basis and save money. Thanks for sharing!
