French Toast Roll-Ups
French Toast Roll-Ups have cream cheese, fruit, or whatever fillings you like rolled up in cinnamon sugar bread. Impressive and crowd pleasing, you’ll love these French Toast Roll-Ups for breakfast.
FRENCH TOAST ROLL-UPS
We had a rough weekend. Without getting into too much detail, my baby girl had a stomach bug and my husband had food poisoning from a local fast food joint. Our washing machine was on overload.
After a full day out of commission I joked to my husband that he might have to cancel his golf tee time the following day.
But imagine that, he squeaked out the energy to make it. Amazing. I guess you could say I’m in need of a little relaxation. A pedicure might not hurt either.
Mother’s Day can not come soon enough. If you’re pampering the mom in your life this weekend, fix her these French Toast Roll-Ups. Of course you could make regular French toast but why not switch it up with these. They look gourmet and melt in your mouth.
I ate 7 out of the 8 of them just to make sure.
And if you love these, you’ll love this Lemon Blueberry Crescent Ring and this Blueberry Croissant Puff.
HOW TO MAKE FRENCH TOAST ROLL-UPS
Just take regular soft white bread and cut the crusts off.
Using a rolling pin, flatten the pieces out.
Place whatever filling you like inside towards the end of the piece of bread. I love softened cream cheese topped with diced strawberries.
Nutella with strawberries is really good too.
Roll those babies up.
Dip them in an egg/mixture just like you would regular French toast.
As soon as you’ve browned them in a skillet roll them in some cinnamon/sugar.
Breakfast is served! This French Toast is one of my favorite breakfast treats.
HOW TO MAKE FRENCH TOAST ROLL-UPS
Cut the crust from each slice of bread and flatten it out with a rolling pin.
Place about 1-2 teaspoons of your chosen filling 1 inch from one end of the bread in a strip. Roll the bread up tightly and repeat with the remaining pieces of bread. I really like cream cheese with diced strawberries as one combination and Nutella with diced strawberries as another combination.
In a shallow bowl whisk the eggs and milk until well combined.
In a separate shallow bowl mix the sugar with the cinnamon.
Heat a skillet set over medium heat and melt a tablespoon of butter.
Dip each bread roll in the egg mixture coating well and then place them in the pan seam side down. Cook in batches until golden brown, turning them to cook and brown on all sides, about 2 minutes per side. Add butter to the pan as needed.
Add cooked rolls immediately from the pan to the cinnamon sugar and roll until completely covered in sugar. You can serve with syrup for dipping but I think they’re perfectly good all by themselves.

Could you make these a head and freeze them
I can’t find what you put in the roll up with the sausage?
I would just do sausage by itself.
Has anyone tried these in an air fryer?
yes- i saw several recipes that said 350 or 360 but i found that 400 for 5-6 min- then flip and 4 to 5 min more depending on how “toasted” you like them-
My kids are not into any French toast casseroles that I like to make for the holidays so I’m super excited to try this easy alternative on Christmas morning! Thank you for a fun and festive breakfast idea. I’m planning to compliment these with your Cheesy Egg Casserole with the cottage cheese, I LOVE that meal and I don’t even like eggs, that’s how good it is. Do I need my bread to be almost stale or is it okay if it’s pretty new? I wanna do banana Nutella and sweetened cream cheese with strawberries and blueberries. YUM. Love your recipes, I have made oodles of them.
New bread is totally fine. You can basically do any combo you want but Nutella with bananas sounds delish!
Delicious! Took to a Father’s Day brunch. Still fine eaten a few hours after cooking. I used spreadable cream cheese; and prepared up to dipping in egg/milk step the day before and kept refrigerated. Will be making again.
Wasn’t really a fan of this recipe, the cream cheese combined with the strawberries made it very tart. The second go round i made a cream cheese frosting instead, tasted amazing!.
Great idea. If the strawberries are sweet it isn’t very tart.
Superb n easy to make ideas recipes. N looks scrumptious
Can the French toast roll up be frozen before rolling them in egg? Want to mix cream cheese, egg and powder sugar together for a filling plus add fruit and freeze them for later
Love these!! I’ve made them several times before and they’ve always been a hit. What would be the best way to make these ahead of time? Can I roll the bread with the filling and then refrigerate for a day, and then dip them and brown them the day of? Or will they get soggy with the filling in the fridge for a day?
Yeah. I wouldn’t dip them a day before, I would probably cook them all the way through the day before if you want to prep ahead of time.
These look delicious! Thank you for the recipe 🙂
Very good! Super easy and the whole family loved them! Make sure to add plenty of strawberries!
when it says “add butter to the pan as needed’, do I add butter during when its cooking, or after it cooks then I coat it with butter?
add it before you cook them, kind of like when you cook pancakes. Just so they don’t stick.
Hi! I used your French Toast Roll Up Recipe for a Bridal Brunch I put together. It was SUCH a hit! We loved choosing different stuffings!
Check it out here: https://www.quirksandquips.org/single-post/2017/09/06/DIY-Brunch-Bar
Thanks for sharing! The family loved it. Overall it’s easy to make, just alot of work esp if you have a large family like mine who wants so many different stuffings. Of course the cream cheese & strawberries stuffing was the fav, but the most interesting that I cooked was homemade apple butter (made by my daughter & inspired from another pin the night before) w/ bananas. The roll-ups were a nice & yummy change from the breakfast usual.
Oh sweet mother of pearl, these need to happen Sunday morning!!
Yes they do!
This was one of the best breakfast meals I’ve ever made. Thank you for the easy fun recipe.
Just used a cutting board and smooshed the bread as flat as I could. That seemed to work just as well.
Do you think these would cook well in the oven, opposed to a pan? I am planning on cooking a lot of these, but I want them to all be done at the same time! What do you think?
Yes, I think they would be great that way!
Made for our ladies breakfast at work and made for our Sunday breakfast with guests included, it was a huge hit!! These rolls disappeared in a blink of an eye, they were just enjoying it but I still manage to steal one for myself (after all I made them, I had to try it too). The co workers did not stop asking how it was done. So I recommended to visit this site.
Thank you! THey are one of my favorites!
please add me to your list
Of course! Will do!
i love it.
Do you have any suggestions for using pumpkin ?
I’m not sure if you’re aware but this website has taken your recipe and posted it. While they give you name credit at the top of the recipe I can’t find a link back to your page.
I used Google Translate and left them a message because they used one of my photos without permission even though I got a link back (at the bottom of the page).
Thanks for the heads up! I’ll check it out.
Can you make this with only one egg?
Yes. It’s doesn’t make that big of a difference.
The recipe directions don’t say when you add the strawberries. Is it before or after you have browned the toast in the skillet? I can’t get the video to play, so it may have the directions as to where to add them. My son loves strawberries, so I’m thinking of making them for him when he comes home in July.
Thanks so much!
Sorry! You can add whatever fillings you want on top of the cream cheese like strawberries. Or just leave them plain.
Can these be made 2 hours before serving? Are they still good at room temperature?
These are definitely better warm. I’ve made them ahead of time and then popped them in the microwave for 30 seconds or oven for 5 minutes.
Can these be baked in the oven instead?
Yes. They don’t get quite as toasty as when they are cooked in a skillet though.
I just made these for the family and they were absolutely amazing!!!! Everyone loved them, even one picky kid who never liked french toast. Thank you for the recipe 🙂
Success all around!
If I’m making these to serve the next morning… Can I cover and refrigerate …And microwave them the next morning? Or should I reheat them in the oven.
They definitely will be crispier in the oven. They might get soft in the microwave.
I tried this recipe and used nutella and raspberry jam for the filling and they were AMAZING! Thank you so much for the great recipe.
It looks soo tasty. And also so easy. I Must try it. Thanks for this beautiful idea
I was wondering how would it taste and look like if I was to use frozen strawberries?
Hmmm. Haven’t tried it.
Do these need to be served hot or warms? I am having a brunch and want make them ahead of time.
I prefer them warm for sure.
My sister turned me on to these top 10 recipes today, and now I have supper tonight! Woo-hoo! Yes, we frequently eat breakfast foods for supper, especially ones that are more like dessert! 😉
Great idea! I love it.
I made these today except I use peanut butter and banana. They turned out pretty good though.
I make a similar dessert with no eggs. Bread slice can also be cut in half, filling added, then other half stacked. Dip in melted butter or milk, then roll in sugar. Love the Gnutella idea.
I just tried these today and they were AH-MAZING! Although I found them on Facebook( on Buzzfeed) and I searched a recipe to follow, since Buzzfeed just had a video. Since on Facebook, they spread cream cheese on the whole piece of bread, that’s what we did, and it was delicious that way. It made it taste almost like a pastry. Delicious! Thanks for sharing.
These look so YUMMY! I can’t wait to make them for the family! Or the next office brunch!
I would love to make a bunch of these for my husband but i’d like to save some for the week. Would it be better to keep them in the fridge and microwave or freeze and microwave/oven?
Thanks so much!! I also want to know the same thing for the bacon roll as well. 🙂
You could freeze them or keep them in the fridge. They definitely would toast up in the oven better. The microwave might make them soggy.
Just tried these for the first time today and they were so delicious! Thank you!! 🙂
