Cookie Dough Frosting
I’ve been tagged several times to list 5 things people don’t know about me. I tend to resist anytime I’m tagged but since Valentine’s Day is around the corner I thought it would be a great time to get to know each other better.
5 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Me
1) I have an insanely strong sense of smell: I can smell what the guy four treadmills down from me had for breakfast and what cologne he wore on his date last night. Because my smelling senses are so strong, it can make small spaces like cars and airplanes almost unbearable. If I have to cook something in the crock-pot, I put it in the garage because otherwise the smell wakes me up all night long (even though my bedroom’s upstairs and the kitchen is downstairs). I think that’s also why I love food so much – because I can smell anything cooking within a one mile radius.
2) I’m the youngest of 10 kids and have 38 nieces and nephews.
3) I always sleep with my hair down and never on my stomach. Growing up my sisters told me that my hair would fall out if I slept in a ponytail and that I would be flat if I slept on my stomach.
4) My pet peeve is when people don’t look you in the eye when they are talking to you.
5) I remember everything. This was really true until I had kids and now my skill isn’t as sharp. I remember names from 20 years ago, what I was eating at almost any major or unmajor event, and birthdays. Sometimes I have to pretend that I remember less than I do, because in my experience it freaks people out when you know too much. I like to learn and that extends into learning things about everyone.
You already know I have a weakness for cookie dough. I’ve made this recipe for cookie dough frosting several times now. I got it from Sally’s Baking Addiction and everything from her site is good! My husband told to me to get rid of any other versions of this I might already have because this one is spot on. He’s been asked for the recipe many times so he asked if I could finally post it. Don’t worry, it’s egg-less.
Cookie Dough Frosting
The flavors of cookie dough in a wonderfully fluffy frosting.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, softened to room temp
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 Tablespoons milk
- 1 cup mini chocolate chips
Instructions

With a mixer, cream together the butter and sugar at medium speed. Add the vanilla and beat well. Add the flour and salt and mix until combined. Add the milk gradually until desired consistency is reached and beat until fluffy. Gently fold in chocolate chips. Frost cooled cupcakes. I like mine thick so I kind of spoon is on. Store in refrigerator.
Recipe Notes
Add less milk for a cookie dough to snack on or add more milk to make it into a dip!

Can you make without chocolate chips?
Yes but I can’t say it would taste the same.
The cookie dough frosting ingredients did not call for flour, but directions did ???

WOW!! Excellent recipe & nice frosting.
Oh my goodness!!! The raw flour comments are making me crazy. Of all people to listen to the FDA is probably at the bottom of the list. The FDA also lists cornflakes as a health food. Seriously government propaganda at its best.
This frosting is delish, and as a pastry chef who eats raw flour almost daily I would have died years ago if it were dangerous. Keep on going on, this recipe rocks just as it is!

I know this is a very old post but I love this recipe and wanted to remind you it exists.
It’s a sad day that the FDA has now advised against cookie dough. Not because of raw eggs but because of the flour, which you have in this recipe.
Might be worth updating to inform people of this new info.
I agree. However if raw flour kills me then I guess it was my time to go.

I just made these! I cut the recipe exactly in half and used vanilla soy instead of regular milk, and I must say… it’s DELICIOUS!!! I might have liked it thicker, so I recommend slightly less than 2tbs for others who only want to ice 6 cupcakes. I stuck my icing in the fridge to harden a bit, so it should be fine.
Now the challenge is- how long can I wait before running to the fridge and eating it all? 😛

My best friend and i just made this… not for a frosting but to eat! We followed the recipe exactly and added about 6 tablespoons of milk, and got the most creamy consistency. We haven’t dug into it yet, but put it in the fridge while we clean up the mess! this is by far yummy, and were surprised that it did not use eggs. the consistency is a little bit weird but it is the best recipe that we have tried.

LOVED this recipe!! I put it on chocolate cupcakes and took it to a birthday party at school. After assuring everyone that it was eggless cookie dough and completely safe, the kids devoured them and requested that I make them again soon. My only problem was getting it on the cupcakes since it was not spreadable like most frosting. Thanks for sharing!!
Yes, you kind of have to mold it on there unless you add more milk then it’s more spreadable.

aMAZing! We used it on a cake but that didn’t make any difference! It was delicious!

Yes, it is.
Raw flour carries more bacteria than raw eggs. This recipe is not safe to eat.
AWESOME!! I love the flour taste of cookie dough. The recipe is perfect! A definate keeper.
Not impressed with this recipe at all.. I was skeptical about it at first knowing it had flour in it but I went and tried it anyway. Just as suspected.. It tastes like raw flour and milk. Maybe try it with powdered sugar instead and update us. The recipe as is gets a no go.

Sorry you didn’t like it. Guess we all have different tastebuds. I guess from my point of view cookie dough itself has a flour taste so it was spot on.
This was SO GOOD. I topped it on some dark chocolate cupcakes. Heaven in my mouth, girl!

Hi! How long can this frosting last outside the fridge? Also, can I substitute the milk with water? Am trying to courier these to a friend in another state, so trying to ensure that the frosting will not go bad during shipment. Any tips are appreciated. Thank you!

Ooh that’s a tricky one. I don’t see anything that would go bad outside the fridge so I think it would be fine since sugar acts as a preserver too. Especially since you are replacing the milk with water. I can’t be sure though since I’ve never done it.
For those worried about the flour, I would just put it in the microwave to kill the bacteria (if there is any) before using it.
Honestly this can be fatal. Eating uncooked flour can kill you. You have more of a chance of getting sick from eating uncooked flour than you do raw eggs. Just be careful
Maybe you could try with some almond flour? I might change the taste a little, but provides the consistency needed for the frosting?

4) My pet peeve is when people don’t look you in the eye when they are talking to you.
As someone under the Autism spectrum, I physically feel ill/stressed/upset when forced to look someone in the eyes while talking.
Let’s just hope you don’t meet too many people with Autism…

Oh no. That doesn’t bother me. I’m very sensitive to those with autism since I have a niece that has it. My husband is guilty of doing it:)

I needed to double this recipe and didn’t have enough butter so I used half butter, half peanut butter to make PB Chip Cookie Dough and it rocked!

I really like the idea for cookie dough frosting, and those cupcakes are super cute. But raw flour?! Nasty!!! Also, raw flour carries a higher risk of salmonella and illness than raw eggs do. I think a nut flour would be better with the added benefit of being gluten free. But thank you for the inspiration and the recipe!
Nut flour is a great idea. I know the raw flour is controversial but I’ve eaten so much cookie dough over my lifetime I might have an immunity to anything that could be harmful. Thank you for your comment. It was very respectful and informative.
I have to tell you I made this and I was a little hesitant to try it after seeing the ingrediants because it was so different from the other cookie dough recipe I used before. But I made it for my birthday and it was amazing. Thank you so much for sharing it, everyone loved with it. I ended up sending an extra piece home with everyone
